The PULPIT Project
Revolutionizing healthcare education by involving citizen patients in classroom activities and research at partner Higher Education Institutions.
Bringing lived experience into healthcare education
The PULPIT project aims to revolutionize healthcare education by involving citizen patients in classroom activities and research at partner Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
This innovative approach moves away from traditional methods like textbooks and simulations, offering students real patient histories and experiences. As a result, students will enhance their clinical and communication skills, transforming their learning process and improving professors' abilities. The project fosters collaboration between HEIs and patient-led organizations, with patients actively participating in enrollment, training, and management.

Addressing unmet needs in healthcare education
The PULPIT aims to improve undergraduate healthcare education by addressing unmet needs such as limited patient interaction during early training, lack of person-centred care, or poor understanding of different healthcare professions’ roles. The project seeks to promote Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in the classroom and Interprofessional Education (IPE) of undergraduate healthcare students, promoting discussion on the physical, mental and social implications of illness, based on real cases.

Dissemination, Outreach and Sustainability
Promotes the project’s results, engages wider audiences and supports the long-term visibility, uptake and sustainability of the PULPIT approach.
Learning with patients, not only about them
PULPIT brings together different forms of knowledge: lived experience, educational expertise, clinical perspectives and research. Patients and members of the public are not simply subjects of learning. Their knowledge, experiences and perspectives can actively contribute to how future healthcare professionals are educated. Meaningful involvement means creating opportunities for patients, students and educators to work together as partners in the learning process.
